How to Add a Border to an Image

  1. Choose a photo

JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 25MB, at most 8,192 px on a side, and at most 24 megapixels. The file stays in this browser.

  2. Pick a color

White is selected first. Black is one tap. Any other color uses the color control.

  3. Set the width

1 px to 200 px, step 1 px. 32 px is the start. Turn on rounded corners only if you want them. 48 px is the start for the radius.

  4. Download PNG or JPG

The file is the photo plus the border. It has no watermark. PNG can keep empty corners. JPG fills them with white.

Add Border to Image Without Uploading It

Add border to image online free on this page. Open it in a phone or computer browser, choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP, and the frame is drawn here. The photo is not uploaded. Add border to image online here means one flat color around the whole photo. The download is wider than the photo by the border on the left and the right, and taller by the border on the top and the bottom. The pixels inside the photo stay where they are. The full-size PNG or JPG is free and has no watermark.

The border width is a slider, from 1 px to 200 px on the full photo, in steps of 1 px. 32 px is selected when the page opens. White is #ffffff and is selected first. Black is #000000. Any other color comes from the color control. Rounded corners are off until you turn them on, so the frame starts square. The radius then runs from 1 px to 400 px in steps of 1 px, and 48 px is the start. On a small photo the radius is capped at half the shorter side of the framed file. A pixel whose center is outside that rounded rectangle is not part of the file.

The download uses the framed pixel size, not the smaller preview. JPEG is re-encoded at quality 0.92. PNG is not. PNG keeps transparency in the photo and, when the corners are round, leaves the outer corners transparent. JPG has no transparency: the photo is flattened on white, and the outer corners are white. This page does not crop a circle. A round avatar is crop to a circle. A mosaic or a blur, with no frame, is pixelate an image or blur an image. A cutout is the PNG maker. A white outline that follows a person is photo to sticker. To soften the room and keep the subject, blur the background of a photo. Sticker, PNG maker, and background blur upload the photo, and the full-size file there is paid. To mirror the photo without a frame, flip an image. That page does not upload the photo. To type words onto the photo without uploading it, add text to an image. For a border that hugs a cutout, remove the background first, then frame the cutout here.

When a Frame Fits

A white edge for a post or a print

Leave White selected. The band is #ffffff on every side.

A black edge

Black is #000000. It is the same width on every side.

A square or a rounded frame

Add border to image keeps the corners square until you turn rounding on; the radius is one number for all four corners.

Before you post

Download the PNG or JPG, then post that file. This page does not open another app.

Before You Download

  • White is the start

The page opens on #ffffff. Switch to black, or pick another color, before you download.

  • PNG or JPG

Use PNG when the photo has transparency or the outer corners should be empty. Use JPG when the file has to be solid. JPG fills transparency and the outer corners with white.

  • The border sits outside the photo

A 32 px border on a 1000×800 photo makes a 1064×864 file. The photo itself is not scaled.

  • Phone photos

A JPEG from the phone is rotated to the way it looks on screen, including the EXIF orientation. HEIC is not accepted. Export a JPEG or PNG from the phone first.

Limits

These match the current page. Add border to image never uploads the photo, and a frame is not a print-shop check.

  • JPG, PNG, or WebP only, up to 25MB, at most 8,192 px on a side, and at most 24 megapixels. A larger file is refused so the full-size export can finish in the browser. HEIC is not accepted.
  • On screen the preview's long side is at most 1,400 px. The download is the photo plus the border at the photo's own pixel size, not that preview. Width and radius below are pixels on that full file.
  • The border width slider runs from 1 px to 200 px in steps of 1 px. 32 px is selected when the page opens. The same width is added on the left, right, top, and bottom. The photo is copied 1:1 into the middle. It is not scaled.
  • White is #ffffff and is selected when the page opens. Black is #000000. Any other #rrggbb value comes from the color control. A value that is not a 6-digit hex color is treated as #ffffff.
  • Rounded corners are off until you turn them on. While they are off, the radius is 0 and the corners are square. After you turn them on, the radius slider runs from 1 px to 400 px in steps of 1 px. 48 px is the start. The radius is also capped at half the shorter side of the framed file.
  • A pixel is outside the frame when its center is outside the rounded rectangle. There is no extra feather on that edge. PNG writes those pixels as transparent. JPG writes them as white.
  • PNG keeps the alpha the photo already had. JPG flattens each photo pixel onto white before encoding, so a transparent pixel does not pick up the border color. The border itself is opaque in both files.
  • JPEG downloads are re-encoded at quality 0.92. PNG is not. If this browser cannot encode a JPEG, the download is a PNG of the same pixels, and the outer corners stay transparent.
  • The preview draws the frame with canvas arcTo, so a browser without roundRect still shows rounded corners. The download does not use that path. It writes the pixels from the same center rule as the limits above.
  • This page does not install an app, does not call a model, and does not upload the photo. It does not crop a circle, does not remove a background, and does not check a margin for a print shop.
