Make a Logo Transparent Without Redrawing It

Most logos that need fixing arrive the same way: a JPG with a white box around it, a screenshot from a website, or a file from a printer that only looks right on white. Put it on a dark header, a colored slide or a T-shirt and the box shows. This logo background remover finds the logo, removes everything around it and gives you a PNG with real transparency.

It's an AI cutout (BiRefNet), not a vector trace — the result keeps your logo's pixels exactly as they are, at the resolution you uploaded. That's why the quality of your starting file matters, and why this page pairs background removal with the 4× upscaler for logos that are too small to use.

The Letter-Hole Problem (and the Fix)

Letters like O, A, B, D, P, R, e and g have enclosed spaces — counters. On a logo with a white background, those counters are white too, and the AI sometimes treats them as part of the logo instead of background. The result looks fine on a checkerboard at a glance, but put it on a dark color and the holes are filled in.

Check every closed shape in the preview. If one is filled, open Touch up, choose Erase, and paint inside the counter; the brush edge is soft, so a size slightly smaller than the hole works best. The same goes for gaps between an icon and its wordmark.

Small or Blurry Logo? Upscale Before or After?

Removing a background doesn't add detail, so a 200-pixel logo stays soft when you print it large. Our recommendation: if the logo is smaller than about 1,000px, upscale the original first with the image upscaler, then upload the 4× version here. The cutout is made on the sharper, larger image, so edges come out cleaner.

Upscaling after the cutout also works — the upscaler keeps transparency — but the transparency edge is resized smoothly rather than redrawn, so soft edges can show a thin light fringe on dark backgrounds. Either way it's one credit per step.

What Size Does Your Logo Need?

UseShapeSuggested sizeNotes
Website headerUsually wide2× the size it's displayed atA logo shown 200px wide looks sharp on high-density screens at 400px
Favicon / app iconSquare512 × 512px sourceSimplify: wordmarks become unreadable at 16–32px
Social profile pictureSquare, often cropped to a circleAt least 400 × 400pxKeep the logo inside the central circle
Print (cards, merch, banners)AnyAround 300 pixels per inch at print sizeA 3-inch logo needs about 900px; a 10-inch one about 3,000px

For large-format print, a vector file (SVG, AI, EPS) from the original designer is still better than any PNG.

Tips for Clean Logo Cutouts

  • Start from the best source

Ask for the original file, or export from the website's largest version. A screenshot of a screenshot loses edges.

  • Watch JPG halos

JPG compression leaves grey speckles around edges that can survive as a faint outline. A sharper or PNG source avoids it; upscaling first can smooth it.

  • Test on dark and light

Place the PNG on both a black and a white background. Leftover background and filled letter holes are easiest to spot that way.

  • Need a white version?

Want the logo on solid white instead? Use make background white.

Limitations

  • Enclosed white areas — letter holes, gaps in icons — may be kept as part of the logo. Check them and use Erase in the touch-up brush.
  • Very thin lines and tiny text on a low-resolution logo can break up or disappear.
  • The output is a transparent PNG, not a vector file (SVG/EPS).
  • A white logo on a white background can't be separated; you need a version with some contrast.
  • The free preview is 512px with a watermark; the full-resolution PNG uses one credit.

Logo Background Remover FAQ

How do I make my logo transparent?

Upload the logo, check the cutout on the checkerboard, fix anything with the free touch-up brush, then download the PNG. The PNG keeps the transparency on any background.

Why are the holes in my letters filled in?

White counters inside letters like O and A sometimes get treated as part of the logo. Open Touch up, pick Erase, and paint inside each hole.

Can I upscale my logo after removing the background?

Yes — the image upscaler enlarges it 4× and keeps transparency. For very small logos, upscaling the original first and then removing the background gives cleaner edges. Each step uses one credit for the HD file.

Will I get an SVG?

No. You get a transparent PNG at the resolution you uploaded (or 4× larger if you upscale). For an SVG you need a vector trace or the original design file.

Is it free?

The 512px watermarked preview is free, no sign-up. The full-resolution PNG uses one credit — 3 come with a free account, and 20 more cost $4.99.

Does it work for logos on colored or photo backgrounds?

Yes. The AI looks for the logo itself, not just white pixels, so colored backgrounds and photos work too. The more contrast between logo and background, the cleaner the edge.
