How to Add Text to Image Online

  1. Choose a photo

JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 25MB, at most 8,192 px on a side, and at most 24 megapixels. The file stays in this browser.

  2. Type the words

Up to 6 lines and 200 characters. The size starts at 8% of the shorter side. You can set it from 12 px to 800 px.

  3. Drag them into place

The long side on screen is at most 1,400 px. The point you drag is the left, center, or right of the block.

  4. Download PNG or JPG

The file is the same pixel size as the photo. It has no watermark. PNG can keep transparency. JPG fills the photo with white.

Add Text to Image Without Uploading It

Add text to image online free on this page. Open it in a phone or computer browser, choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP, and type. Add text to photo here means the words you type, drawn on top of the picture. The photo is not uploaded. The full-size PNG or JPG is free and has no watermark.

The box starts with the words Your text, in white letters, with a black outline, centered on the photo. Replace them before you download. Outline is on when the page opens, at 8 px. Center is selected. Sans, which is Arial, is the font. Drag the words to move them. A tap on the photo also places the alignment point. Left, center, and right change which edge of the words sits on that point. The file keeps the same width and height.

The download uses the photo's own pixel size, not the smaller preview. JPEG is re-encoded at quality 0.92. PNG is not. PNG keeps transparency except where the letters cover it. JPG has no transparency: the photo is flattened on white, then the words are drawn. A frame is add a border to an image. A mirror is flip an image. A round crop is crop to a circle. A mosaic is pixelate an image. A white outline that follows a person is photo to sticker. A cutout is the PNG maker. To soften the room and keep the subject, blur the background of a photo. Sticker, PNG maker, and background blur upload the photo, and the full-size file there is paid. To put words on a subject cut out of its scene, use the background remover first.

When to Add Text to Image

A short caption

Type the line, leave the outline on, and drag it near the subject. This page does not write the words for you.

A label on a picture

Use black letters when the photo is light. Use white letters and the black outline when it is dark.

Two or three lines

Press Enter for a new line. Center lines them up on the point. Left lines them up on the left.

Before you post

Download the PNG or JPG, then post that file. This page does not open another app.

Tips to Add Text to Image Cleanly

  • White on a black outline

White letters and a black outline are selected when the page opens, so the words can be read on light and dark photos.

  • PNG or JPG

Use PNG when the photo has transparency. Use JPG when the file has to be solid. JPG fills the photo with white before the words.

  • The font is a system font

Sans is Arial. Serif is Georgia. Mono is Courier. Another browser can draw the same name a little differently.

  • Phone photos

A JPEG from the phone is rotated to the way it looks on screen, including the EXIF orientation, before the words are drawn. HEIC is not accepted. Export a JPEG or PNG from the phone first.

Limits

These match the current page. When you add text to image files here, the photo is not uploaded. Typed words are not a new picture.

  • JPG, PNG, or WebP only, up to 25MB, at most 8,192 px on a side, and at most 24 megapixels. A larger file is refused so the full-size export can finish in the browser. HEIC is not accepted.
  • On screen the preview's long side is at most 1,400 px. The download is the photo at its own pixel size, not that preview. The width and the height do not change. This page keeps the same width and height.
  • The box starts with Your text. Center is selected. The words start in the middle of the photo. A new photo centers them again and sets the size from that photo. The words, font, colors, alignment, and outline stay.
  • Font size starts at 8% of the shorter side, then stays inside 12 px to 800 px. The size is in photo pixels. On a very large photo, 800 px can still look modest.
  • Up to 6 lines and 200 characters are drawn. Extra lines and extra characters are left out. A blank box downloads the photo with no added words.
  • Line spacing is 1.25 times the font size. The drag area is that block, not the tight pixels of each letter. Words past the edge are cut off.
  • Outline is on when the page opens. The outline is black and 8 px, drawn with strokeText under the fill. Turn it off for plain letters. The fill is drawn with fillText.
  • Sans is Arial. Serif is Georgia. Mono is Courier. A character the font does not have can fall back, and emoji may not draw. You cannot upload a font file.
  • This page does not write the words for you. It does not check spelling, and it does not rotate the text. Letters already in the photo stay. To paint them out, use the text remover. That page uploads the photo, and the full-size file there is paid.
  • PNG keeps the alpha the photo already had, except where the letters cover it. The letters are opaque. JPG flattens the photo on white, then draws the words, so a transparent pixel in the photo becomes white.
  • JPEG downloads are re-encoded at quality 0.92. PNG is not. If this browser cannot encode a JPEG, the download is a PNG of the same pixels, and transparency stays.
  • The preview draws with the same fillText and strokeText calls, on a smaller canvas, so a letter can differ by a pixel from the full-size file. The download does not use a newer canvas path. A JPEG from the phone is rotated to the way it looks on screen, including the EXIF orientation, before the words.
  • This page does not install an app, does not call a model, and does not upload the photo. It does not add a frame, does not mirror the photo, and does not crop a circle.
