What an Emoji Remover Can — and Can't — Do

Emoji, stickers and doodles get added to photos all the time: a heart over a messy table, a sticker covering a screen, a scribble on a story. To remove an emoji from a photo here, you brush over it and an AI inpainting model fills the painted area with what plausibly belongs there — wall, sky, fabric, hair.

One thing needs saying clearly: an emoji is a flat layer of pixels, and whatever it covered isn't stored in the picture. Nothing can reveal what's underneath. On a background or clothing, the AI's guess is usually convincing. If the emoji covered a face, the AI creates a new face that fits the photo — it won't look like the real person. Please don't use it to try to uncover someone who was hidden on purpose.

What to Expect

What the emoji coversTypical resultWhy
Plain background (sky, wall, table)Usually cleanSimple textures are easy to continue
Clothing or fabricUsually goodFolds and colors carry on from around the spot
Hair edges or busy patternsMixedStrands, tiles and text have to be invented
Part of a faceRedrawn, may look offThe AI matches skin and features around it, but can't know the real ones
A whole faceA different faceGenerated from scratch — not the person who was there

Results are predictions, never recovered pixels.

Emoji, Stickers and Scribbles

Emoji

Bright, solid shapes with crisp edges. Paint one stroke slightly larger than the circle.

Stickers with white borders

Many sticker packs add a thick white outline and a drop shadow. Both have to be covered, or a pale ring stays behind.

Scribbles and drawing

Thin lines across a photo work well if you trace them with a smaller brush instead of painting a large block.

Text and captions

For lines of text, the text remover explains the best way to brush over them.

Tips for Cleaner Results

  • Cover the outline and shadow

Leftover border pixels confuse the fill and leave a ghost of the emoji. Paint a small margin around it.

  • Do all stickers in one pass

Each run starts from your original upload, so paint every emoji before clicking Remove It.

  • Use the original file

A screenshot of the photo is smaller and blurrier, and the fill matches that quality.

  • Large sticker over a busy scene?

Expect some smoothing. For objects in the photo itself, the photo eraser and people remover have more tips.

Limitations

  • Hidden content can't be recovered. Faces, text or details under an emoji are generated, not revealed.
  • Large emoji over complex areas — crowds, patterns, writing — may leave a smeared or repeated texture.
  • Only still images (JPG, PNG or WebP up to 25MB); not videos or animated stickers.
  • The free preview is 512px with a watermark. The full-resolution result uses one credit.

Remove Emoji from Photo FAQ

Can I see what's under an emoji?

No tool can — the covered pixels aren't in the file. The AI fills the area with a plausible guess, which works well for backgrounds and clothing but not for recovering a real face or text.

How do I remove a sticker from a photo?

Upload the photo, paint over the sticker including its white border and shadow, and click Remove It. Check the result at full size before downloading.

Is it free?

You can remove emoji and download a 512px watermarked preview without an account. The full-resolution, watermark-free file uses one credit — 3 come with a free account, and 20 more cost $4.99.

Can I remove several emoji at once?

Yes. Paint over all of them before clicking Remove It — each run starts from your original upload.

Does it work on screenshots from Snapchat, Instagram or WhatsApp?
